A rock-symphonic poem recorded live at Teatro Verdi, Genova 12/16/2012

The great dream of Fabio Zuffanti since he began writing the music on Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem “The rime of the ancient mariner” was to transpose the whole opera in a theatrical version, giving people a version that could visualize its magic words and music. Thanks to the meeting with genoese director Susanna Tagliapietra, author of the great achievements in the field of the musical with her versions of “Aida” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”, the dream has become reality.

Susanna has helped to bring alive the musical world of Zuffanti creating a multimedia work and reproducing on stage the supernatural universe of Coleridge with multimedia elements, dance and stage actions. The first of the show was held last December 16, 2012 in the prestigious Teatro Verdi in Genoa getting a great success.

From that evening comes this double album, containing a DVD with the shooting of the show (and a funny backstage) and a CD with the audio recording of the evening. Compared to the studio version, published on CD last year, the theatrical version contains many new arrangements and a brand new piece (“Interlude”).

Un poema rock-sinfonico, registrato dal vivo al Teatro Verdi di Genova il 16/12/2012

Il grande sogno di Fabio Zuffanti dal momento della composizione delle musiche sul poema di Coleridge era anche quello di trasporre il tutto a livello teatrale fornendo al pubblico una versione che potesse visualizzare le magiche parole e la musica del poema. Grazie all’incontro con la regista genovese Susanna Tagliapietra, giù autrice di grandi successi nel campo del musical con le sue versioni di “Aida” e “Jesus Christ Superstar”, il sogno è diventato realtà.

Susanna ha contribuito a rendere vivo il mondo musicale di Zuffanti realizzando un lavoro multimediale e riproducendo sul palco l’universo sovrannaturale di Samuel Taylor Coleridge con elementi multimediali, danza e azioni sceniche. La prima dello spettacolo si è svolta lo scorso 16 Dicembre 2012 nel prestigioso teatro Verdi di Genova ottenendo un grandioso successo di pubblico.

Dalla serata è tratto questo doppio album contenete il DVD con le riprese dello spettacolo (e un divertente “dietro le quinte”) e un CD con la registrazione audio della serata. Rispetto alla versione in studio, pubblicata su CD lo scorso anno, la versione teatrale contiene molti nuovi arrangiamenti e un pezzo completamente inedito (“Interlude”).

Ukrainian musician/composer/producer Antony Kalugin is amazingly prolific. Amongs all his other projects this was already the 13th Karfagen album (released in early 2022). Of course, a new one is ready to see the light of day in early 2023 ;-) This album is (as all his stuff) clearly 70s oriented, "golden-era prog", extremely rich in melodies and arrangement ideas. Some jazzy, folky, classical influences included and very well sounding, too :-) Almost disappeared in the deep wishlist 8-o Carsten Pieper
